A bit of background, a blog introduction and a special thanks!
Just recently turning 4 years old, the Fredericton Fashion Council has been continuing to develop into a name that people can rely on for the going-on's in local fashion. We keep our social media updated with upcoming fashion events in the area, what local designers are doing, collaborations, job opportunities in the field, etc.
We have helped host events, pop up shops, and even Fredericton's first Fashion Industry night with Wear Your Label. We have held talks with successful people in local fashion business. Our members consist of people that can be contacted and potentially help further your own goals in the fashion industry!
The council was born through the vision of Ellen Woolaver, former head of the fashion department at the NBCCD. She knew that there was potential to create a group of locals designers and businesses with a passion for fashion. So she gathered a collective of people and created a fashion hub for networking, events and collaboration, that could all help each other grow in the communities fashion industry.
2 years later, with a new position at the school ahead of her and much on her plate, Ellen gracefully stepped down and handed her presidency to Jaclyn Wilson, the then current VP of the FFC.
This is about the time I officially joined as a member myself, and because of my passion to help with all things fashion, I quickly became VP and was helping Jaclyn with anything I could to keep up interest in the council. Eventually Jaclyn also had a lot of business endeavors in the works and passed the presidency of the council to me.
Since then, I feel with the help of a handful of members we have successfully kept things going, with events at least 2-3 a year and we have been relatively consistent with the social media, but we are looking for more contributors, and to do something new!
That leads me to introducing this long over due official Fredericton Fashion Council blog! We believe this is a great next step for the council to take, so we have a bit more presence than just a FB feed. This will be a place where everyone involved with the FFC, or looking to contribute, can share anything and everything fashion related, with a focus on the Maritime.
It can be anything from relative articles you've written, street fashion, an ootd, designs, your creative process on a project, collaborations, business endeavors, upcoming fashion events, fashion show/ event coverage, beauty trends, etc! Submit it, you will be credited, and contributing to showing off Fredericton's talent.
Currently the FFC board members consist of:
Kayleigh Saad - President
Adrienne Goodine- Secretary (since day 1!!!)
Billy Peterson - Treasurer
Scott Saad - Head of Multi Media
Board positions open consist of Vice President, Head of social media, and Promotional liaison.
Email frederictonfashioncouncil@gmail.com with any questions you may have about taking on board roles. Also see Member Benefits link on side bar for information on joining the council.
Members and board members of the FFC have come and gone over the years, and I want to thank each and every one, past and present, for helping the council get to where it is today! I want to give special thanks to both former treasurers, Pat Galbraith and Christy-Lynn Jenkins. Thank you for keeping things so organized to be past down to Billy!
To past social media coordinator Tracy Austin, I don't know how everything would have kept so orderly at one point without her!
To Jaclyn Wilson for trusting me with the presidency, and to Ellen Woolaver and Joanne Venart for supporting me to keep it all going the whole way through!
Cheers to FFC's future impressions in 2016, and onwards!
Kayleigh Saad
President of the Fredericton Fashion Council
